very minor number problem.

In Excel2003 I have some information at the top of a page like company name
address etc... and one of those needs to be an account number. But the
problem is that the number is something like 0000486565 and Excell keeps
dropping the first set of zeros. I looked in the formatting section but
didn't really see anything that would keep them in place. I'm sure I'm
overlooking something very simple, but I just can't seem to find it.

Hi Matt,
Try formatting the cell as "Text".
Regards - Dave.

Ahh, text... I knew it would be something simple like that... and here I was
looking all through number settings... thanks!

Dave has given a good answer. Here are other ways:
1) type a single quote (apostrophe) before the number (make the entry text)
2) use a custom format such as 00000000000 (preserves the number)
best wishes
