Folks, a question I have win xp home edition, and over the past couple of
months, when first starting the computer it takes an inordinate amount of
time to boot up. On the average of 3-5 minutes.

Any thoughts, areas I can check

I have a 1.3 pent 4 machine, norton system works etc but have really changed
nothing in the last couple of months that would lead to this slow down.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Had the same problem on two systems recently. One had NSW installed, the
other running AVG. I unistalled NSW and AVG, reinstalled them and
everything began working normally. I don't have a clue as to why, but just
assume that one of the Windows updates caused the problem. Give it a try
and see if it helps. I later just stopped using Norton altogether and only
use AVG on my Windows systems now.

Ed, thanks for the response, about a week ago I had a problem getting the
lastest updates from symnatec, so I did have to uninstall and reinstall
NSWorks, and the problem is still here. I am not sure what AVG is, I am
sure I should

I don't have an answer to your problem but AVG is a free anti virus prog
from Grisoft. If you have Norton then you wouldn't need AVG anyway. I
uninstalled Norton and installed AVG and ZoneAlarm for my firewall.

I have a new Sony PCV-46G 3.2 GHz Media Center system and it has such
a problem. Actually WinXP loads quite quickly and appears mostly ready
to go in 30-45 seconds. But the Symantec stuff doesn't finish its
process for 90 seconds after everything else is ready. At the end of
that interval I get the Windows sound chord and then the NAV and
Norton Internet Security items appear in the system tray. I seem to
recall that a couple of other items didn't behave normally until the
delay terminates.

If I run msconfig and remove an item called Symantec Event Manager,
the delay disappears but of course none of the protections stuff is
loaded. This only happens on boot up so I haven't persued it. I should
check with Symantec.
