Does anyone know how I can retrieve data from a .pst file
that will not re-import back into Outlook. It is not read
only but is all the Personal Folders and is 1.52gb. I only
wish to retrieve the email message folders. When I try to
re-import the file it locks up Outlook.

Open it instead;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

If this fails as well run scanpst.exe against the file

Instead of trying to use the import feature, just try opening the .pst
file within outlook. TO do this (at least in XP), select File | Open
| Outlook Data File and browse to it's location from there. I know
there was a (I believe), 2GB limit to the size of a .pst file, so I
don't think that's a factor. I think opening the file as I've
described above should do the trick.

Good luck! I hope this helps :)

Thanks Scott and Roady,

I am running Windows 2k and have run scanpst.exe which
informs me that the file is Ok but it still will not
import into Outlook. I am worried that I have a file that
contains important info I will not be able to access.

As Roady said, don't use import. Just open it with File>Open

Try just opening the file, instead of using the import feature. In
order to do this, from Outlook, select File | Open | Personal Folder
File. Then browse to the location of your .pst file and have Outlook
open it from there. This is COMPLETELY different from importing, and
you may have more luck - once it opens, you should be able to
copy.move messages between the 2 files without issue.

Hope this helps! Good luck :)
