Hello,
I am connect to the internet from my campus connection. Here we have a huge
network. I was working out why all the computers are locking up for
1-2seconds at the same time. When my laptop stops responding for a seconds
also my room mates are having this problem. Then we did a better search and
find out that near all of the computers on the network having this annoying
problem.
The only solution seems to be unplug my ethernet cable. Does anyone has any
idea to solve this problem?

p.s.: We use a dial-up like connection. WanMiniport(PPPOE) to connect.

Thanx

Start with the obvious - Tech Support for your LAN.

If they can't help, and you want to diagnose the problem, get PingPlotter and
Process Explorer (both free).
http://www.pingplotter.com/
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml

Install both products on 1 or 2 computers. When the computers "lock up", see if
Process Explorer indicates any process as hogging the CPU.

Next, see if you're looking at an Internet connectivity problem. Start
PingPlotter, and set it pinging a computer on the Internet, say www.yahoo.com
(66.94.230.33). When the computers "lock up", see where the connection is being
lost.

Post back here with more detail. You're right - this does sound interesting.

Hey Chuck, thanks for your reply. I have been observing the cpu hogging. But
the only interesting thing seems to be the "DPCs" as described Deferred
Procedure Calls. This thing, doenst appear in the task manager but the
Process Explorer shows it. Only that item sees to hog for a while.
Ping plotter doesnt seems to show any problems. By the way, i am not a pro
about this things, so I can be wrong too:(
I am trying to find a solution beacuse my school wont try it:(

Another info that can be useful is that, while I connected with wireless
this locking thing does not happen!

I tried the Process Exp. in other computers too. The DPCs thing seems to
have a jump when the computer freezes. Mouse locks, if you are listening to
music it repeats last few seonds again etc...
But note that when the network cable is unplugged this never happens. Also I
know that Windows XP pro and home editions are being used here. So I dont
know any other Windows editions or unix, mac os systems.

Thanx
