VERY Confusing!!

On my daughters PC which is networked to mine and has previously been
networked OK, I have a strange thing that has happened to the
Local Area Connection.
Client for Microsoft Networks is unchecked
File & Print sharing is unchecked
When I check them a message appears telling me if i disable them blah blah
blah....
but they are already disabled. Answering no leaves them unchecked,
if I answer yes they stay checked, then when I re-open properties they are
unchecked again!!!
I cannot delete the connection and any subsequent connection i make is the
same.
Any ideas?
