Hi, I am researching Networks and a bit stuck.

I know that all the computers and the server connects to a switch but i am
not sure on what a Patch Pannel does?
is it needed for a network of around 30 computers with a server running
Windows server 2003?

Also when i see these big servers in racks on the internet and on TV, why
are there rows and rows of servers? what do they all do? I think i only need
a File/Print server?

Please tell me so i can maybe make a network in the future when i know more
about them

Thankyou

A patch panel is a convenience item, used in a network to connect computers
and peripheral devices to a switch. It's not necessary in any network setup
but does add a great deal of convenience if you ever need to change out
equipment or track down network cabling problems.

I have no idea what all the servers in TV shows do, except maybe impress the
viewer. :-)
