sometimes when i start my computer up everything is in the system tray.
sometimes when i start my computer only Local Area Connection and Wireless
Internet Connection are there. Ever since i have had my laptop this has
happened. is there a way to stop it. these are really all the details. the
laptop starts up normally everytime but there are icons missing from the
system tray.

They aren't missing, they are hidden. Click on the < that's between the
task bar and sytem tray. That will expand out the system try and show all
the icons.

You can also right click on Start and select properties, go to the taskbar
tab and click customize at the bottom. This will allow you to set
everything to 'Always show' if that's what you want.

Try disabling one or the other of these two services, or both if needed:

SSDP Discover Service
UPnP Service

Go to Start | Run | Services.msc | Ok. Scroll to the service in the right
pane, double click it, stop it if started, then disable. Reboot.

will this stop the problem completely?

It's likely to be the UPnP service. To stop the problem permanently, go
into the services and set the UPnP service to disabled (if it is the SSDP
Discovery service, then disable that one.
