Verifying Data against a query or table

Hello everybody, I am trying to create a form that i can use to verify a
username and password against. when the database opens the form pops up and
the user enters his/hers username and password. i want the form apon submit
to check the username and password against a table and a query then either
open the main window or give an error statement. iw ould also like to keep
the loin window hidden after login in to use as a reference for record
cretion and query filtering. If anybody can help me it would be appreciated.

Hi Bonnie,

sorry I am really new at this(access period), i need to check against
numerous user names and passwords in a table or query. and my passwords are
alpha numeric. not even sure where to start with the code. I have done some
simple open form commands but nothing when checking against table info.
