I have a customer that is experiencing problems with the
upgrade to PowerPoint XP from PowerPoint 97. When they use
the org charts created in 97 in XP they can't edit
efficiently. It does some really strange things and
doesn't allow their normal editing procedures like adding
co-workers, etc.

I found an answer last week on the newsgroup that seemed
to say basically that it was not possible and one should
recreate org charts in XP.

I tried to find the answer today for further reference but
I couldn't.

I want to make sure that I don't give my customer ( a big
one) the wrong answer on this one.

Is this a limitation of PowerPoint XP? Is the solution to
recreate all existing org charts that will be used in
PowerPoint XP?

I would greatly appreciate the answer so that I can tell
them how to deal with their ongoing problem of old org
charts not allowing normal editing that they are used to
doing in PowerPoint 97.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Short version:

XP and 2003 no longer include the Org Chart mini-app that previous versions of
PowerPoint called up to create/edit Org Charts. They now use code that's built
into PPT for this and other types of diagrams. It behaves differntly, as
you've seen.

Have a look here, though; ignore the business about the error messages, scroll
down to the last two paragraphs.

The server application, source file, or item can't be found (when editing
MSGraph, Excel Charts, Org Charts)
