I've tried a couple VB.NET to C# converters. Has anyone had really good
success with one over another ? and if so which one do you think works best
?

I have used Instant C# from Tangible Software Solutions
(http://www.tangiblesoftwaresolutions.com/)

It's the only converter I've used, and I've only used it on one small
project, but it worked well.

no, but i think this would be a great idea for something for the C# team
at Microsoft to implement. you know, a way for the C# people to put a
not-insignificant amount of smackdown on the vb.net team. "C# eats VB."

Why would they want to do that? The VB.NET team works for Microsoft
too, you know...

(There would also be the matter of the few things which you can do in
VB but can't do in C# - not a lot of "smackdown" for those situations.)

There are already converters on the market - I don't think it would be
particularly useful for MS to produce one as well.

Microsoft competes with other companies for its position in the corporate
world but Microsoft employees compete with other Microsoft employees for
their position in Microsoft.

The goals of a company and its employees are never truly aligned except for
the naive - I didn't figure that you were one of those!

While I appreciate that there is bound to be internal scrambling for
position, I'd expect anything which would count as a "smackdown" of one
team by another to be squashed *very* quickly by product management.

Would that be the manager of the VB product or the manager of the C#
product?

The manager above them is probably only concerned with doing power point
presentations and attending as many meetings as possible. He will just sit
back and whichever side comes out on top he will tell HIS manager it was his
great leadership that lead to this giant leap forward.

P.S. Any managers of VB or C# reading this - It's nothing personal guys. I'm
only generalizing here from bitter experience :-)

So do I need to post this question to the VB.NET news group ? It doesn't
seem like the C# guys have done much VB.NET converting. I have played with
the web based converters, they do a sub-par job in my opinion. I've though
about purchasing a product, but I hate to buy something that doesn't work
much better than the web based converters that are free.

Did you try the one I mentioned (Instant C#)? I believe they have a
trial edition...

The Visual Studio product manager.

That's not my experience of the PMs at MS, to be honest. I may not
agree with all the decisions, but they do seem to be involved in the
product.
