I recently bought a new Intel 2.8 P4 PC and thought that i'd save a bit of
cash by buying and installing a new version of WinXP Pro SP2 build 2600 by
myself. After numerous tries going through the install process as it wouldn't
load all files, i eventually got it up and running. But i've been plagued
with one problem after another. When i log onto WXP the sreen flickers and if
i'm connnected to the internet, nine times out of ten, it'll shut the pages
down usually with the message "Motive Browser has encountered a problem and
needs to close". I get similar messages: "Generic Host Process for Win32",
"Image Mastering API" when either trying to connnect to the internet, trying
to download Windows Updates, or just clicking on the start menu.

Can anybody please help me? If additional system info is needed, i'll be
glad to put full specs.

Thank you

yes, i did. i've also ran diagnostics and it couldn't find any problems. i'm
having real trouble with loading applications from cd-rom and downloading
updates. i loaded Office 2003 after numerous tries but now every time i try
to open it and set the email accounts it says theres a virus and that it's
encountered a problem and needs to close. when i do virus scans it comes up
blank. I've tried to download the update from MS site but it always comes up
"failed".

i had a similar problem on my old pc when trying to download SP1 from the MS
website. it came up with the virus detected messsge every time i tried to
install it. thats partly why i bought a new pc with the SP2 disc.

Also, the Start menu and Tool Bar disappear occasionally, usually when i'm
trying to open something from the menu. If i'm in the middle of opening My
Documents for example, it freezes the screen.
