Vanishing email

I habe email that comes into my inbox, sits for a couple of hours, and then
totally disappears. Not running antivirus here. can anyone tell me where
email vanishes to and how to make it stop?

Do you have a view set that hides read e-mail? (e.g. See View > Arrange By

ps - if you accidentally modified the "messages" view to hide read items,
you can start Outlook with the /cleanviews command line switch. This will
delete all custom views and reset the built-in ones back to their defaults.
(How to: Start > Run > outlook.exe /cleanviews > OK button)
