You could try a clean install without the floppys,ie boot
straight from windows XP CD.

Restart PC without inserting any disc, then enter BIOS at
startup press DEL or F1 or F2 (Button differs on
PC's).Once in BIOS look for "BOOT" menu setup, when you
found it change the FIRST "BOOT DEVICE TO CD/DVD" and
have boot devices 2/3 as HDD/Floppy.Now exit saving
changes.

Thats it now, just insert windows XP disc and off it
should go on a clean install.

Hopefully without errors "Fingers Crossed Aye"

Thanks for the lightning reply.

I had hoped that would have been the case, but it won't
boot from CD. In the BIOS setup I only have an option of
ATAPI CDROM (though I don't think that should matter).

On altering the Setup and continuing it now tells me
to "Remove disks or other media.
Press any key to restart."

There are no media in the slots, and it doesn't restart
if I press a key!

Reformatted HD, created XP boot floppies, booted OK, but
then get message "The following value in the .SIF file
used by Setup is corrupted or missing:

Value 0 on the line in section [SourceDisksFiles] with
key "SP1.cab."

Setup cannot continue. To quite Setup, press F3."

What can I do now to install clean install of Windows XP
Home? HELP!
