I had a computer I bought from someone that had XP Home but it would not
validate, so I bought a new copy of XP home and wonder if theres a way to put
the code in so it will validate or do I have to completly reinstall XP?

Read carefully:

first navigate to the following reg key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents

right click OOBETimer, and modify one of its digits (any it doesn't matter)

next open up run and type %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

a box should pop up in it click yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows, and then click Next.

then click Change Product key, type the new product key in the new key boxes, and then click Update.

all done!!

You can do a Repair Installation. See "How to Perform a Windows XP Repair
Install" http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

However, if I bought a used computer, the first thing I would do with it
would be to reinstall the operating system cleanly. You have no idea how the
computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is
missing, what viruses and spyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live
with somebody else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddie porn,
etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do either.
