I had the pleasure of "uxtheme.dll" going away. I have only installed
critical MS software really! I've solved the problem by copying the dllcache
copy up into system32. Questions:

1) is that solution ok (I am now running fine)?

2) what makes this DLL go away?

3) is MS listening to all the folks running into this problem and what are
they doing about it?

thanks

uxtheme.dll is not a windows component. MS has no responsibility for
this, especially since it is a system hack for themes. Google is your
friend.

Q

What do you base that on?

The Properties Version tab on mine shows:

File version: 6.0.2800.1106
(xpsp1.020828-1920)
Description: Microsoft UxTheme Library
Copyright: © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
Product Name: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System

While you're correct in that uxtheme.dll is a MS dynamic link library
file, there are several patched copies of uxtheme.dll available for
download throughout the web. One is for SP-1, the other for SP-2.
What the patched copies do is allow third party themes to be run and
displayed in XP. Very handy to have especially if you like themes.
