How do I download my email from the hotmail server to
free-up space in my account? I want all of my email to
be stored locally on my pc, and not on the hotmail server.

Add the account to Outlook XP or higher. Then move from your online folder
to your local folder in your PST file. If you don't use a normal email
account you may need to create a folder called inbox.

can you elaborate on this with a step by step instruction
please? i really don't understand what you mean.

You never bothered to tell use WHICH version of Outlook you are using.
Obviously different versions of a product contain different features.

From recollection and for OL2002:

Tools menu -> Send/Receive Define Send/Receive Groups -> select the
group where Hotmail is selected (to it is active within that group) ->
edit that group -> select the Hotmail account -> change the option to do
a complete download so more than just the headers gets downloaded

After writing the above, I decided to play the automaton and do the
search for you. Amazing what can be found if you take the effort to
just go look in Microsoft's own support site:

- Go to http://support.microsoft.com/.
- Search on "hotmail download complete" (all words) for "Outlook 2002".
- And, voila, you'll find:

OL2002: How to Store Hotmail or MSN Web Based E-mail Accounts Offline
