Has anyone been successful in connecting WindowsXP to
Windows98(1st edition)? The File Transfer Wizard is not
successful in letting the two computers find each other.
I'm using a Serial DB9 to DB9 cable connection. Now a
Microsoft Tech says that the two systems cannot be
connected by direct cable, but the Transfer Wizard
indicates that they can.

The transfer wizard not only does not work with direct cable, it also does not work with a network! I can set up the network and prepare the files to transfer, then when I put the disc in the old computer and get to the page for transfer, the network option is in grayscale. I am wondering if this program works at all? My next option is going to have to be buying a cd burner for my old computer and then downloading it through that. I can really not afford to buy a cd burner after just paying over $2000 for a new Dell system. Dell says they can not take care of this problem unless I pay over $240 for advanced support. I consider that to be an outrage. the new machine is one week old.
