This may be a supid question, and there may be postings already about
this, but googling returns so much info, and I haven't found an answer
to 1 simple question.

I have a small biz with one computer. I need to be able to manage
resources using a calendar application. I thought outlook would be
great, but it seems that you can't actually use it for resource
scheduling without an exchange server? Is this correct?

Here is an example of what I want to do. Lets say I have 25 portable
sound systems. In the month of April I have 50 events that require one
or more of these systems. Using outlook isn't there a simple way I can
see which unites are available and assign a system to an event?

YOu may need another program to manage your resources. Outlook/Exchange are
meant for corporate settings where conference rooms, company vehicles,
laptops, projectors, etc. need to be booked in association with a particular
meeting or event. It sounds more like you need an asset management tool
rather than a collaboration server and mail client.

Excel offers an excellent way to manage check in/check out of your
equipment.
