Hi - I used the drawing tools in PPT and created an
illustration. Then I right-clicked on the illustration
and used the "Save Picture As" command. I saved the
image using a variety of formats so that the illustration
could be imported into other graphics software, such as
PhotoShop.

I'm not really familiar with graphics and their
differences, but to my surprise it seemed that the best
image was in the PNG format (whatever that is), and it
created a better image than a GIF. I don't believe that
PhotoShop recognized a WMF format.

I guess I have a couple of questions. Can anyone verify
that a PNG format is a good "univesal" kind of format to
use for graphics manipulation, and does the Corel product
recognize a PNG format?

I hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance for any
help.

DDL,

PNG is indeed better than a GIF for most things.

A GIF file is limited to only 256 colors or less.
A PNG can have anything from 2 colors to millions.

Both GIF and PNG are what is commonly called "bitmaps"...i.e. they're made up of dots/pixels.

A WMF is not a bitmap (it's a vector image). Photoshop (on the whole) only likes bitmaps.
Corel Draw likes WMFs.

Which Corel product? Most should eat PNGs happily. Certainly Corel Draw and
PhotoPaint do.

If you intend to edit the illustration later in, say, Corel Draw, then you
might want to try WMF or EMF instead.
