using Outlook on a home network

I am trying to set up Outlook to be accessible on a
second computer (laptop) in my home wireless network.

I mapped the folder containing the outlook.pst file to
the laptop, but I am getting a message saying "File
access is denied. You do not have the permission
required to access the file Z:\outlook.pst".

Outlook works fine on my desktop, and I can open the .pst
file on the laptop using WordPad (of course it appears in
it's own garbled format).

The problem occurs when i try to point Outlook on the
laptop to use the .pst file from the desktop.

Both machines are running a firewall. The desktop uses
NIS 2004 and the laptop has ZoneAlarm.

Just for fun, I tried disabling both firewalls, but I get
the same results.

I don't know where else to go here. Both machines are
set up as "Corporate or Workgroup" environments. Is
there something in the settings that i should change,
maybe int eh security?

Thank you for your help,
Mike

You cannot access the .pst file from 2 computer simultaneously. You will
have to shut down one instance of Outlook before you can open it with the
other.

I should have included that.

I don't have both open at the same time. I learned that
the last time I posted a request on this subject and I
think you were the one who told me that. I have made
some progress since my 02-25-04 posting, but haven't made
it work yet.

Is there anything else I can do?

Is just closing the appearance of Outlook on the desktop
sufficient or do I need to do something else to release
that file?

Thanks,
Mike

Try C+A+D and make sure there is no running instance of Outook.exe in the
task manager. If you use a PDA and have it hooked up and cradled, this
quite often will tie up Outlook so you can't access it from a second
computer.

I continue to be stumped here.

I looked and saw no instance of outlook.exe running (even
with the PDA cradled). One at a time, I ended all
processes related to my PDA (Palm), removed the PDA from
the cradle, and then Microsoft on the desktop and tried
to change the accessed file on the laptop after each
change. I still can't access this .pst file in Outlook
on the laptop.

After I had all of those ended, I also tried diabling
both firewalls again just to see if that would help.
Still nothing.

I appreciate the help, but do you have any other ideas?

Thank you,
Mike
