Using outlook 2003 do I need exchange server to share databases?

We are considering upgrading to outlook 2003. Can I and my assistant
share my database of contacts and calendar?

Which one? :-)

I haven't used any of the non-Exchange solutions, so I can't speak to their
reliability.
