Hi

No, you can't. You can use one copy of XP per PC. If you have 2 PCs you will need 2 copies of XP. This has been the case with previous versions of Windows - this time, however, MS are enforcing the activation of XP to stop the use of one copy of XP being used on more than one PC.

Yes, but in order to successfully activate Windows XP on the second
computer, you'll need to purchase a second license (Product Key).
The Windows XP license agreement only permits one installation
of Windows XP on one computer with each Product Key.

Read your Windows XP End-User License Agreement:

Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter.

Also, open XP's "Help and Support" and type: EULA
and click on "Questions and Answers about the
End-User License Agreement".

Not unless you actually paid for - and got - two licenses.

First, that would be illegal (if you only bought one license), as it
violates your EULA (End User License Agreement).

Second, the second installation would require activation through
Microsoft, and since you already would have had it installed - and
activated - on the first PC, Microsoft wouldn't activate the second PC's
installation.

Depends on what you mean by "without any problems" and what your own
personal values are.

Technically - "Yes"
Legally - "No"

There's ways around everything, and in this case, it's a morality call.

If you are willing to lie, cheat and/or steal - yep, you could likely do it.
If not, then No.. You cannot.

Thus the license agreement you agreed to when buying, installing and/or
using Windows XP has this in it:

"You may install, use, access, display and run one copy of the Product on a
single computer, such as a workstation, terminal or other device
("Workstation Computer"). The Product may not be used by more than two (2)
processors at any one time on any single Workstation Computer."

Read the rest, if you like: Start -> RUN and type in "winver" then click on
the "End-User License Agreement" link in the window that appears.

Good luck in your choices!

Interesting.. I posted and then came back later to "Message is no longer
available on this server", so I am reposting.

Legalities has nothing to do with it. Activation is
mandatory within 30 days if you intend to use XP. SO
sooner or later, you'll HAVE to activate it or stick with
your old Windows.
Activation info checks your hardware components & computer
settings, then sends it to microsoft via the internet. If
you don't have internet, you'd have to call them to
activate it (which is a pain to do over the phone).
If you install WinXP using the same CD onto 2 different
computers, the 2nd one will see that the computer is
different & shuts down after 30 days. The same thing will
happen if you get a new hard drive; XP will think it's
being installed on a new computer & shut down after 30
days. You'd then have to call microsoft to get a new
activation# for such probs.

Miscrosoft claims to give a 10% discount on the 2nd copy
of XP you get, if you wanna go that route.
