Hi,

Im an XP home user. I am one of a family of 5. Therefore, on our home PC
we have 5 different user accounts: 2 administrator accounts, and 3 limited
accounts.

My question is this:

When I am operating in my own user account (which is an admiistrater
account) I want to install programs that will only be installed be instaled
onto my account, and not the others. How can I do this? Alternatively, how
can I install programs onto my account and make sure they appear on all user
accounts?

Secondly,
I have Norton Anti-virus. When I do live updates whilst on my user account,
are these updates taking place over the whole PC, or just my user account? I
would like anti-virus updates to encompasss the whole PC.

Thanks for any help you can offer , its much appreciated!

When you install a program, if it was written to be aware of multi-user
operating systems like XP it will ask during installation if it should
be installed to be available to just the user installing it or to
everyone on the system. Make your choice as desired.

If the program does not give you that option, you can either hide the
program by not putting it on your users' Start Menus or look at XP's
Set Access & Defaults feature. To manage the Start Menus, right-click
on the Start button and choose "Explore All Users". You'll now see the
familiar two-paned Explorer interface with all the users' Start Menus.
Copy or delete as desired. Here is a link explaining about the second
option:

Your NAV covers the entire computer, not just your user account. I don't
know if Limited users can initiate Live Update since I don't use NAV,
but whatever virus definitions and program updates are downloaded and
installed apply to everyone. You do not need to update NAV from each
user account.
