Having failed in several attempts to network my old laptop which runs Win 98 and my new XP PC, I have resorted to trying the printer port option. However, I cannot find Directcc on the XP machine. Does this option not work with XP? I have 100s of meg of work I need to transfer. Is there a fast, simple way I can do it without mucking up all the laptop networking stuff (which is set up by a system administrator to network from a work location), even if the Directcc doesn't work

Thanks

This site shows how to use a direct cable connection between LPT ports
on 98 and XP:

DirectParallel® and Direct Cable Connection (DCC) Step-by-Step SETUP
http://www.lpt.com/Support/DCC-SetUp/dcc-setup.htm

However, that type of connection will take so long to transfer 100s of
megs that I'd try again to get the Ethernet connection working. Maybe
the system administrator at work can help you with that.
