Using information from Contacts

Jeff

I find it very frustrating to figure out how Outlook XP is handling my
contact information. I have it set to use 'Contacts' and I keep all info in
there very tidy, filed in a particular way etc.

When I start to enter a name in the 'To' field of a new message, Outlook
suggests a number of possibilities based on what I've typed so far, but
those possibilities often include several entries which are NOT in my
Contacts folder, and which I don't actually want on my computer - for
example they might be old email addresses which have been replaced. The
Contact concerned has been updated, and the old address removed from the
record in Contacts, but the old addresses keep being offered.

Where is Outlook getting these other proposed addresses from? And how can I
tell it to propose info ONLY from my Contacts folder, which is where all my
up to date correct information is?
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,

This information is stored in your autocomplete cache known as an KN2 file.
If you want to delete one entry at a time, you can highlight the unwanted
entry and press the delete key to remove it. If you want to edit many
records, you can purchase our utility called Owtlook. You can open, add,
edit and export entries. Oftentimes there are entries in your autocomplete
cache that are not in your contact folder(s). With the export utility, you
can change that. You can download a demo version of the utility at
www.dcs-imaging.com/products.htm. Also, we have some tips and tricks
regarding this file. If you contact me through that web site I'll be happy
to provide you with additional information.

Outlook 2002 maintains an autocomplete cache in an .nk2 file of addresses to
which you have sent messages in the past. This is totally separate from your
contacts folder(s) in Outlook. You can turn off the autocomplete feature
with Tools | Options | Email Options | Advanced Email Options.

Thanks. What I really want to do is keep the autocomplete feature on, but
remove addresses which I don't want to have proposed....is this possible?
Jeff

Just delete them as they pop up in a selection list.
