Using Device Manager with no mouse - curious problem

I'm diagnosing a troubled Windows XP Pro laptop. Right now, I'm diagnosing with no
mouse.

I can do most everything without a mouse - HOWEVER, when I'm in Device Manager, I can't
open any nodes (I can't use the mouse to click on the little '+' signs).

I've tried all the usual. Can anyone tell me how I can open the '+' nodes in device
manager using only the keyboard?
 
Use the arrow keys to expand and collapse the device categories.
Right & Left Arrow keys perform the expand or collapse functions.

Use the TAB key to navigate within Device Manager.

With "+" (revert with "-") from the keyPAD at the right.
Same as in Windows Explorer.

Use the Tab key to get to the device list, then use your arrow keys.
