I don't have all the software that was installed on my
computer when I had 2000 and I would like to upgrade to
XP. I did a system backup and then installed xp and
tried to restore it. Everything came back but would not
let me open any of the programs. Does anyone know of any
articles or guides to help me successfully do this?

thanks

It sounds like you don't have the programs that were installed under
Win2k installed in XP. You can't just move program folders - you have
to reinstall the actual programs using cd's or installation
executables. Once you've installed the programs, then you'll be able to
open files you created. Did this answer your question? If you need more
help, please post back.

Cheers,

You can't do things that way. Programs will need installing on the new
system (or do a proper upgrade by running the XP CD from the 2000). If
you do a clean install you can bring some things forward - read Gary
Woodruff's article on Files and settings Transfer at
