Using 2 email addresses in Outlook 2000

I have office 2000 premium running on XP home. I have 2 email address set
up as accounts in Outlook but it sends emails using the wrong details - i.e.
not the address I designated as default. How can I tell it which address to
use when I send mail?

I know I can set up two profiles, but that means I have to keep openening &
closing outlook to see if mail has arrived for the other address.

I also know it is easy with a drop down menu of different accounts available
in outlook express, but that can't access my outlook address book, calendar
etc.

What I want to do is choose which address to send from within a single
outlook profile if possible. Otherwise second best is to get it to send
using the account designated as default.

Thanks for any help.

It sounds as if you're using Outlook 2000 in Corporate or Workgroup mode
(check Help | About Microsoft Outlook to be sure).

In this mode, your only option if you want to keep both accounts in the same
profile is to change the order of services in Tools | Services | Delivery -
the one at the top is the one that will be used.

If you're not using Exchange Server, you can change your mode to Internet
Mail Only. Select Tools | Options | Mail Services. When you select the
Reconfigure Mail Support button, you can switch to IMO mode, which will
allow you to select the sending account from a dropdown box in the toolbar
of the new message. You'll probably need your Office or Outlook CD handy to
switch modes.

I do not think I installed it in workgroup mode - under help-about I get the
message "internet mail only" on the second line. Also under tools I have
the option "accounts" whereas I think it says "services" in workgroup mode.

Additionally it is not using the first entry under tools-accounts. The
first entry is the default one I want to use.

Finally I can't find a mail services option anywhere under tools-options or
tools-accounts!

Is something corrupt in my installation or do you have any other ideas such
as something on the installation disk that is not installed?

OK - if you're using Internet Mail Only mode, you do not have the option to
use profiles, so the Tools | Services and all that doesn't exist.

When you compose a new message, you have the option to select the sending
account by clicking the down arrow next to the Send button.

If you select Tools | Accounts | Mail, you can select the desired account
and then select the Set as Default button to make it the default mail
account.

Note, when you reply to a message, it will default to using whatever account
the message was originally addressed.
