Shane

Hi, I just updated Windows XP off the MS web site and now
have a slight new problem, an annoyance really. When the
PC starts up from a fresh boot, or even starting again
after just sitting idle and the screen saver came on, I
get this screen asking me to select a User and Log In.
This added step is driving me nuts!!!!!!! How do I turn
this crap off!!! I just want my running programs and
icons! What is all this anyway? Its just the PC sitting
here on desk...I don't have networks and other users!
Agghh!!! If anyone can help me, I am in your debt. Thanks
much, Shane

Go to Control panel and then User Accounts

where it says pick a task click the trird option "Change
the way users log on or off and untick use welcome screen.

Hope this helps.....

Shane,

From what you are describing, I would guess that you
have "On resume, display welcome screen" checked.

Open your Display Properties window (right click anywhere
on your Desktop and select properties). Select the
Screen Saver tab and within the Screen saver section you
should see a check box with "On resume, display welcome
screen" after it. Uncheck this box and you will no
longer get the welcome screen when you computer goes idle.

Follow these instructions to disable the welcome screen
when you first boot up.

Type "control userpasswords2" in the Run command. A User
Accounts window will open. Above a list of Users for
this computer: you will see, "Users must enter a user
name and password to use this computer." Uncheck this
box and restart your computer.
