User switching problems.

My husband and I share a home computer and we each have our own user account
under Windows XP. We also have a Guest account set up. Fast user switching
seems to be working just fine, but when my husband logs off his account the
computer locks up and needs rebooting. Everything works normally when either
my account or the Guest account log off - we get to the Welcome screen and
whoever else can log on and continue. When he logs off, the Welcome screen
appears, but when i try to log on, the system gets as far as showing up my
background screen and then freezes up - I then have to crash the computer and
re-start. Anyone else experienced this, or have any ideas as to how we can
overcome the problem please.

Did your husband install anything before this problem?
What kind of programs he run before logging out?
It looks like there is a program running in the background that refuses to
shutdown when your husband log out

Thanks for responding.
As far as I know, the only things he has installed are a couple of games he
plays on the zone. I need to check with him that he logs out of that, it
could indeed be the cause of the problem. Once again, thanks for your help. :)

We are having the exact same problem. I just created an account for my wife.
When I log off and she tries to log in, the system freezes and needs a
reboot. Fast Switching seem to work fine. I would be very eager to know if
you arrive at a solution.

No luck so far. It seems he is shutting off all programs before logging off,
so it's not that. The problem has been going on for quite some time. I've
even gone back to a full restore, and it still behaves in this way. :(
Anyine with any more suggestion?
Thanks.

I too have a similar problem. I can switch users but if I am the only user
running and I log off the computer freezes and has to be powered down. (This
is a newly set up Laptop and has the Autologon disabled).

I normally work on my Administrator account (I know I probably shouldn't).
My wife has her account and I have another for my son. When they log off the
screen goes to a dull gray color and freezes. I have to restart to log in
again.
