User Profile Loads Real Slow

I would like to begin by saying that I truly love
Microsoft. They have the quirkiest products in the world,
and their end user support is anything but user friendly.

That being said:

I recently had to do a complete reinstall of my Windows
XP system because of an issue with Internet Explorer
(cost me $35.00 and 6 hours on the phone with a Microsoft
representative to figure out that we needed to install
the software again. Bill, I hope I can write the $35.00
off as a tax deduction). Now my system is up and running
somewhat. I now have a problem with my user profile,
where it loads very slowly (5 top 10 minutes to load).
Most of the time I find myself pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL
twice in order to access my system. This is not what I
purchases a Windows XP based system for.

Does anyone have any advice on how to speed this process
up, without having me go back to the online
representative. $35.00 per call adds up after a while.

It's easy. Skip the six hours on hold and go straight to doing a
complete reinstall. You still won't understand anything about what to do
to maintain your system, but you'll save six hours compared to the last
time around.

"User profile loads slowly" is too broad a symptom to begin to narrow
down the causes, but spyware is a pretty good bet. Update your
anti-virus and do a scan. Get Spybot or Ad-aware and scan for other
sorts of malware that your AV won't find.

Do you Kazaa? Then you likely have a trojan lurking on your system. Pray
that it isn't one of the stealthy kind.

Visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com and follow the directions.

you are not amusing at all. people should NOT have to be
a computer expert in order to use it. get a life!!!

I have the same problem. Several XP pro machines that
belong to a SBS 2003 domain. The login prompt comes up
fairly quickly as MS advertises. But once the users logs
in, it says "Applying your personal settings" for up to 5
minutes. Is there anything that can be done to optimize
that process? Could it have anything to do with roaming
profiles or offline folders? The users never roam and
don't need offline folders. Any advice to speed things
up? (And no viruses. New install of XP and Norton 2004
running does the same.)
