Hi,

Is is it possible to set a local user account (not admin
level) up with rights to perform virus and windows
updates?

The PC is a remote user so GPO wouldn't apply except at
local level(?) I basically want the user to be able to
install updates and pretty much nothing else.

Cheers

Can users not perform virus updates without admin privileges ? I've been
doing it for years with AVG AntiVirus.

Windows Update requires Admin privileges. That only makes sense though.
When I surf the web as a user with straight-jacket privileges (view-only,
but nothing else), vermin that slip through my defenses try unsuccessfully
every day to update or corrupt files in \Windows or \Program Files, or run
Uninstall to remove something else. Imagine what would happen if a user who
loves to surf the web, also had Admin privileges to update, corrupt, and
remove anything willy-nilly.

If you set time and date to install automatic windows
update, local users do not need admin privileges.
