User Name being changed when trying to publish

When I get the "Connect to xxx.com" dialog box
I put in my User name and Password and hit OK
The screen flashes and my user name which was USER
is now changed to xxx.com\USER and I am back on the
same dialog box. I cannot go further.
Hiting OK just loops me back to the same screen.
My host is confused
I am confused.
I used to publish this to a different host and recently
switched. So I know this worked on my PC in the past.
Any suggestions?

Contact your new host to find out what is the correct method of entering your username.

I was on the phone with my new host for an hour.
They did not have any ideas.
I was hoping someone had run into this.
Best I can tell Frontpage wants the User Name in one of 3
formats:
UserName
host\username (which is what it appears to be changing
my entry to)
username@host
I've tried all three.
Unfortunetly there is no error message, just loops back
to the dialog box.

Your host should know the format required for accessing there servers.

Are you doing File Menu | Open Web and then entering http://www.domainname.com
and has it been 72 hours since you transferred the domain to this new host?

Actually I was using File Menu | Publish Web while I had
my web open on my PC

I closed the web and tried to open the one at the host,
per your instruction: File Menu | Open Web and I got the
same error: it prompts me for my user ID and Password and
then changes my user ID and does not let me do anytbing.

The Transfer to a new host was initiated Monday. The
web address is resolving, i.e. if I put in www.site.com I
go to the new host because I get a "coming soon" screen.

My new host has escalated the problem. If I get an
answer I will post it here.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

i had a web on yahoo once and their login name for me was "nameofmyweb.com" which drove me nuts for an hour or two.

Thanks, I gave that a shot but to no avail.
Maybe it is a timing issue with the transfer between
hosts. Hopefully my host's escallating the problem will
mean I know something tomorrow.

that could be it.
when i switched it only took 24 hours for the host...however, i made the mistake of changing registrar at same time...that took 7 days.

Try some cleanup
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp

2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache

3) Delete any Network Places you have associated w/ the site
4) Try to open FP and publsih again
