User ID missing?

I have started working on a network and have been trying
to get a handle on the Active Directory errors in the
event logs. I found one interesting item that I didn't
think possible.

When I look at the account information for some of my
users I find that they have only a Pre-Windows 2000 login
ID. The User ID that I thought they would need to interact
with AD is not there.

My question is what is the impact of not having a Windows
2000 UserID? And what happens when I starting adding them
in for existing users? If I add that information will it
attempt to recreat the user profile to reflect the new ID
style?

Thanks for the help.

Rich,

There is no problem in having user account objects that have only the "user
logon name ( pre windows 2000 )". This is their sAMAccountName attribute
and that is why it looks like it does in the user account properties ( in
the Account Tab: NKDSOLUTIONS\cshultz ).

The 'other' user id to which you are referring is the UPN. This is the user
name that looks like an e-mail address ( (e-mail address removed) ) and is
not really necessary. You can get by without it. However, it could a nice
feature. There is nothing that will happen when you add this attribute to
existing user account objects. Remember, it is just an attribute with an
associated value.

Cary
