can someone explain how to do it?

No.

Ask again and supply some details of the version, application and what you
want to change and how.

Sorry,

Outlook 2003. I want to change the user-defined field in contacts to list
it as a field for a Social Security number. I would also like to do a mail
merge with that contact information into a Word Document.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use existing fields to store whatever information you want, but you
can't change the field names.

To do the mail merge, start in your Outlook contacts folder and choose Tools
| Mail Merge.
