User Control panel

Hello Mark,

Go back to the control panel and on the left side press the button that says
switch to category view, then go back into user accounts and it should be
fixed.

I tried the REGSVR32 /i mshtml for my problem and it didn't help any other
ideas on how to get back to category view?

Though my control panel looks more like Windows 98, all the other components
look and behave strictly like XP clones ... When I look I see absolutely
nothing like the button you describe either before against Control Panel on
the Start menu or after opening the control panel panel window. By the way,
though my control panel content is Win 98'ish it's frame is definately XP.
Using each of the options under the view menu (Thumbnail to details) only
gives variations of Win 98 type transitions. So in summary - Control panel
looks absolutely nothing like the style of the "Help and Support window"
though it did when originally installed! Any Ideas? A missing "skin" file or
conceptual equivalent perhaps?

"You are a very naughty boy" What you are suggesting is known as a paradox.
It goes as follows -

I want my control panel to look like the XP one; The XP one has the "switch
to category view" button on it but my one does not. So to click on this
button I need to change my view to that of the XP control panel. But I cannot
because the "switch to category view" button is on the XP screen and I have a
Windows 98 type screen without the "switch to category view" button on it.
etc etc (Brain loops to meltdown on this one)

This certainly did something as I received a nice XP message box to confirm
something was done and make me click on it to close it. But alas my Control
Panel screen still lacks the style of the "Help and Support" Do I need to
restart or has it done something else to discover later on perhaps?

Mark ... I have your solution this hour. Do as follows:
1) Open your control panel - you see a Windows 98 ish appearance;
2) click menu item "Tools";
3) click "folder options";
4) click "Restore Defaults"
5) click "OK" at bottom of box;
Watch what happens ...... Da Daaaa!

I had the same problem as the OP. I affected the regedit, and did obtain the
Category view, but did not find the option to toggle Category to Classic
restored. I now have the view I was seeking, but do not have the option to
change the view. Any suggestions?

TIA.
