i went to make a limited user account and was not able to
due to security restrictions in effect on the computer. A
reference was given for msgina.dll. I did some searching
and found a script fix for it at kellys koroner. I made
the account and logged out and tried to log in on the new
account and recieved this message: "Windows cannot log
you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that
you are connected to the network or, that your network is
functioning correctly. If the problem persists contact
your network administrator. Detail: Cannot find the file
specified" (The message was in a classic style window on
the new XP style welcome screen)
I then went back into my account and made an administrator
account and logged back out and tried that and got in but
with this error message: Cannot find file specified.
Logged you on with the default profile.
I looked in profiles in system information and there are
only three. All administrator accounts.

I had been doing some research on the msgina.dll and found
that almost every article on it referred to Hotfix
Q811493. In the MS KB article - 819634 its discussed
further and the symptoms are very similiar to those I have
been experiencing ie (odd heighted security behavior) The
Ntorsknl.exe file is also mentioned and I have a constant
error message pertaining to that.
I know I'm reaching here but i think my not being able to
create/access user profiles other than the default is due
to this 811439 hotfix. A security, failure audit event
that constantly occurs is:
MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0 attempted to log on
to.. (all accounts including the one that I cant log on
to) event ID 680. Any input on this would be appreciated.

Several KB articles came close and offered some ideas but
nothing fit all the criteria. I need to find a way to log
a logon besides the event veiwer, something that will give
me a "failure status code" that I can enter after "net
helpmsg" at a cmd prompt. There is supposed to be a
userenv.h file that contains these codes but I have yet to
find it. Thanks for the tip.

Type userenv in the KB and get windows to log logon and tell you exactly why.
