User accounts not initialising

Is there a way to identify the cause, and how to fix, the fact that when I
have more than 1 account open on my PC, whichever account is opened second,
does not initialise. The 'egg timer' continues for ever. i have done all the
'housekeeping' type activities, and exchanged numerous emails with HP, and I
am being told that a non-destructive recovery is the option open to me. I am
hoping to avoid this - is there another way to identify the root cause of the
problem and solve it?

Not remotely sure what you are talking about.

What account are you talking about? How do you open this account?

Opened second???

Your subject mentions "user". Is this user accounts you are talking about?

What do you expect to happen when you "open the second account"? How do you
go about opening the "second account"? What is happening different from what
you expect when opening the "second account"?

I am referring to the fact that you can have several accounts, for different
people, on the same machine. The accounts are created via the control panel,
under 'user accounts' from the admin's original account (the default that it
created). These created user accounts can then be amended to the way that
particular user wants. And you can have multiple accounts open at any instant.

When i refer to 'Opening second' what i mean is that if I boot up the
machine, and select a particulary account to work from, I can then open
another account that was created on the PC (for instance, one of the accounts
would be for me, and another would be for my daughter). The second one, which
ever I open after the first, will not initialise. It used to, for about a
year or so, but something has gone wrong.

All the user accounts should open in the same way. Because people will have
changed the desktop and possibly the programs etc, these could be different
for each account, but each account should fire up with it's own desktop, with
all the ICONs showing and system tray. But at present the desktop does not
finish initialising - the egg timer continues, i guess because something
cannot complete it's loading.
