I have a new computer with XP Pro which I purchase off the Store sales floor.
Xp had already been registered to the store. I'm new to XP and trying to
reset the user accounts for a single user. The store tech had me rename the
Admin User from the store name to my own and I deleted the ASP.NET User, when
told to, but before I understood its purpose. When remnaming the Admin User,
I chose to Save the follders.

Now when I save files the default is for them to be placed in folders with
the name of the Store. I would like to amend this so files are saved to the
Admin Folders with my name and delete any reference to the Store. Any help
greatly appreciated.

While logged on to your account, click Start> Run> and type in
%userprofile%
then click OK.

This will open a folder window. Check the path to that folder. I think that
you'll find that your account data is currently stored in the "Store"
folders. How does this happen? When the folder for a user account is first
created, the folder name matches the user name. If you later change the
account name, you will the see the change in some parts of Windows but the
name of the underlying folder for the account remains the same.

I misspoke. The Store user account was deleted and they said it was OK to
rename the Administator account with my name.

After learning the perils of operating on a routine basis as Administrtor, I
tried to rename Adminstrator to Adminstrator and it said there already is an
Administrator account.

I think my goal now is leave "My Name" as the Administrator and set up a new
power user account with which to conduct my ordinary use. Does this sound
like an appropriate solution. Or is there an easy way to rename the
Administrator, administrator.

You were correct, running %userprofile% yielded the Store name. When the
system boots there is no log on and the only accounts now are "My Name" and
"Quest", which is off. Thanks for the insight. On second thought, in the long
run would it make sense to restore the system to factory settigs, relaoad XP
SP2, etc..

The default Administrator account drops off of the welcome screen when
another account in the administrative group is created. I think that's why
you are unable to rename the account "back to Administrator." Chances are
the account you're trying to rename never was this default account with the
explicit name of Administrator. Instead it was the first user account added
to the administrator group.

You could test this by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del twice at the welcome screen.
Then typing in Administrator as the user name. If your OEM didn't muck it
up, the account has no password (leave this field blank). If successful
logging on, a new set of folders will be created in Documents and Settings
and will be named Administrator

As far as what you should do next:

If I'm right, the account you're using now is not the default administrator
account. It is an account in the administrator group though and can be used
for routine administrative tasks. Reserve the other one (the one that has
already dropped off the welcome screen) for troubleshooting purposes.

Create another account for everyday use. Either Limited or Power User (only
available in XP Pro). Your choice.

Once you have the accounts created. Move any data over that you need/want.

Then re-examine your accounts and delete the unwanted ones. At a minimum
you'll be keeping: Administrator, the folders for your account in the
administrator group, your new everyday account, All Users, Default User.
Also if present (these accounts are used by the system and some programs):
Local Service, Network Service, Guest and the .ASPnet account (added by
..NET framework).

If you have any other regular users on the system, hang on to their
accounts too. ;)
