This is a repost, since it was never answered...any thoughts?

To what extent does setting up a seperate user account issolate changes to
that user account settings from other user accounts? I thought the
issolation was total (like each user account was at its own computer), so I
was surprised when I deleted a desktop icon from one user account that it
was deleted from all user accounts.

The whole point of user accounts, I thought, was so a user could make
whatever changes they wanted to their settings without affecting any other
user account's settings.

Please advise.

Thanks!

It depends . . .

Windows supports three profile folders:

1. Default User
==========
Any shortcut located in this folder gets copied to the user's folder when
that user logs on to a specific machine for the first time ever. When he
logs on the second or third time, the "Default User" folder is ignored.

2. All Users
========
Any shortcut in this folder is visible to all users at all times.

3. BDay (for example)
===============
Any shortcut in this folder is visible to BDay only.

You obviously deleted an icon that was located in the "All Users"
folder. You should have right-clicked the icon and checked its
properties. The very first tab tells you where it is located.
