I read with interest Microsofts warning in its help files about spammers
Windows newsgroups posters user profiles.
I would like to access my user profile to make sure I haven't left my
address hanging out. How (where) do I look for that Is it as simply as
double clicking my user name?

I don't have a profile, so I can't answer your question. Why not get rid of
the Profile altogether and use a real newsreader to access the groups?
Outlook Express is a decent newsreader. Click here:

Then all you have to do is use a fake email address, like the rest of us.
Something like (e-mail address removed), so it can't possibly be someone else's
real email addy.

Gary;
You bring up a very good point some people miss.
It is important, if an address is munged, to be sure and not use a
legitimate domain.
Otherwise that domain will get the mail adding to their cost even if
the address is invalid.

For my first year here, I munged the part *before* the "@". Bet Yahoo
wanted to drop me as a client!
