Hi,
I upgraded from win 98 se, to xp home. I have no plan
to go back to win 98, can the win 98 stuff be removed to
reclaim that disk space? Since it was an upgrade, does xp
use any of the 98 "stuff". If I can safely delete it, can
someone tell me where I can find it on my hard drive?
Thanks,
George

If you're confident that you'll not want to "turn back the hands of
time," then you can safely delete the old Win98 system files.

He doesn't really need to know which files are which, specifically.
The option to remove them will be in the Control Panel's Add/Remove
Programs applet. There will also be a clearly identified single folder
on his hard drive to be deleted.

Hello again,

I went to control panel add/remove programs.
There is no entry for removing the old win 98 stuff.
I then selected add/remove windows components, it's not
on that list either?

Does anyone know how/if the old win 98 can be removed?

Thanks again,
George

Did you actually perform an Upgrade to start with, replacing Win98 with
WinXP, or did you select the "New installation" option and create a
dual-boot scenario?

Thanks again Bruce,

I did an upgrade. Not a dual boot?
(can I do a "new install" if I bought the upgrade version?)
