I tried activating some Scheduled Tasks last week that required a password.
Not having set a password ( I am the ONLY User), I proceded to do so in the
Control Panel. Now when I Re-Start WIN XP Home, I get a different account
than my original settings. I must now log off and select my User Name in
order to get my personalized settings.
How do I un-do this dilemna?? I am sick and tired of all these extra
keystrokes.

Try looking in the Control Panel, User Accounts for any other account that
may have been created and delete it.

There may be a couple such as Guest and .Net, those are normal and should be
left alone.

I've seen this on a notebook running XP Home. Unfortunately, I never found a
good fix for it, and just backed up, wiped it, reinstalled, and restored his
information.

Ex: Created a profile for the owner, ran fine for a few weeks and did the
same thing. It dumped all of his profile into a Temp directory in Documents
and Settings. Every other time he would log on, it would give the message of
'unable to load settings, creating from default....'. But, part of his
profile would be there and sometimes his My Documents were accessible.
I'm still wondering whether or not it was a software application
installed on the computer. I did not install all the bloated 'OEM crap' when
I did the redo. It's has worked fine til this day (for months).

Thanks Rich, for the help. One more thing please.

What might happen if I moved all the Program info/shortcuts from StickyMouse
User Account in C:Documents and Settings/Program Files/Start
Menu/Programs/StickyMouse to the Default file in the tree file one level up
from this setting. Wouldn't that wipe out the account with my name and just
leave a Default User? Thus using this logic there would be no need/reason to
log off or change users when booting XP.

Now stop me, I am using the words "logic and reason" and wanting to apply
them when interacting with a Microsoft product; but this does seem as if it
would cure the problem. My only concern is if I did this and it did not
work; I would not be able to get back into the OS to do a System Restore.

No that would not delete your account. The Default account is the base
profile that is used to create new account profiles when that user first
logs on. What you could try is this. Backup up all your data such as
Documents, address book, favorites, email folder, etc... Then create a new
user account for yourself. Logon as that user. You'll see that you'll be
starting over as far as customizing your setup. Then copy back or restore
your backed up stuff.

Use this account for a while and see if the same mysterious thing happens to
it. I bet it won't. You may have had a partially corrupted profile that
cause Windows to punt and start over.
