Can a program icon be used in a Word Document (or anywhere for that matter)?
I suppose it can but...
Where are they stored?
I cannot find them.
Thanks,

Frank,

It depends, some icons reside in the installation folder, usually C:\Program
Files. These can be copy & pasted into an Icon folder for your personal use.
Others are imbedded in the .exe file also stored at C:\Program Files. To
retrieve these you'll need an application such as IconShop. IconShop is a
stand alone application that requires no installation. Just click to open,
find an application's .exe, click on it and save the icon.

Hi Drew,

Didn't realize it was so complicated...
Thought they were just little .gif or .bmp files that resided somewhere on
the system & if I could find them I could use them.
What about "Windows" icons? Same thing?
Thanks,
Frank

Frank,

You can search for all icons on your computer:
* Start > Search > For Files & Folders
* Click on 'Advanced Options', check the first 3 boxes, leave the other 2
unchecked
* type *.ico in the 'Search for Files or Folders named' (no spaces), click
'Search Now'

To search for 'Favicons' used by web sites & temporarily stored on your
computer:

* Start > Search > For Files & Folders
* Click on 'Advanced Options', check the first 3 boxes, leave the other 2
unchecked
* In the 'Look in' box, Copy & Paste
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 (note 'yourname', replace with your account name)
* type *.ico in the search 'Search for Files or Folders named' box (no
spaces), click 'Search Now'
* Copy & Paste icon into a personal icon folder
