under xp when you plug a card reader into a usb connection a autoplay dialog
box appears, lately it does not show up, how do I get it back

do this:

Start - run - type or copy: devmgmt.msc (press enter)

the device manager will open...now insert the device(card) with the mouse
rigth click the name of your computer(is the first at the top) and select
scan for hardware changes...this usually resolve this problem...

Every time you want to remove a device (Plug and play device)from your
computer you need to do the remove option near by the clock..and the system
will prompt that is safe to remove the device...
then you unplug....

Or try this...after you plug in your reader, go to My Computer an
right click on Removable Disk %Drive Letter%. Select Properties.
Then go to the tab that is labeled AutoPlay. Select prompt me eac
time at the bottom and apply

In the future, please quote enough of the message you're responding to to
put your reply into context (as I did above). Many newsgroup participants
(me, for example) don't save already-read messages and a message without a
quote is likely to be completely unintelligible to people.
