Just a quick question, can i add another usb card to my pc? If its just a pci card does it need to connect to anything else?

This is my mobo.
Cheers

Heh i got the same motherboard :D
i dont think you need any thing else.
although with my card i got a wierd little USB thing that connected to the mother board and was held by a PCI bracket. well considering you already have 4 USBs? i think why would you need any more?

Yes, just plug in the PCI card, they usually come with four ports. XP will probably recognise it, but you may need to add a little software that will be supplied with the card.

You could also consider an external hub that will plug into one existing slot, they come in all different sizes.

I have four at the back; two at the front and four on my monitor which plugs into one of the rear slots, giving me a total of nine.

Used thus:

1) Printer
2) Scanner
3) Joypad
4) Joystick

And I plug my camera in and out of a front port.

I'm still using the PS2 sockets for mouse and keyboard.

An external will cause less of a problem ...

No, you 'slot it in' and away you go ... However, USB requires "power" to run and on an internal card that power must be supplied from your PC. Will it cope?

As your system comes with 6 already a simple solution, so as not to have a power problem, is to use/buy an "external powered hub" ... make sure it has its own power, cheap as chips. But also be aware some peripherals do not like to be connected to a hub ... they don't tell you that ... an example is some USB Modems.

I use:

Mouse
Keyboard
Webcam
VoIP Phone
USB Wireless network adaptor
Internal (USB) Card reader
Joypad
Flash drive / MP3 player (pluged in most of the time)

Hey how good are you with a Dremmel??? You can get the internal usb connection, it plugs into your mother board(depending on board I think its one of the AUX slots) and then you have to mount it somewhere. Now this is the fun part, mount it where ever you wish-- I did mine in the front lower left corner. But hey who's to stop you from mounting it comming out of the top of the pc for you webcam or jumpdrives. Takes a little time -- For me total was about 2hrs mostly planning cutout and mounting- came out well though. But really, 4 isn't enough i only use 3 i think, the front ones are for MP3 player and cell phone, and those I don't leave in. Maybe for you external hub is the way to go.

Hmm. well i aint gonna start hackin away at me pc with a dremmel just yet!! I could get an external one, tho my desks not got much space left on it and i am quite a tidy person so one hidden away inside would be my first choice.

About the power thing, well i still aint got that graphics card i was thinkin about coz of the PSU. Its not been a prob yet, its just i would rather the peace of mind that i got a decent one behind me! This is my psu at the mo although its a 400w one. (Couldn't find the exact one) I hear you guys talkin about Targan, emermax etc, so it'll be one of those at some point. :)

You could always attatch the external hub behind your desk/computer to keep it out of the way/sight. No law says where it has to go, use double sided tape stick it to the top/side of the tower, they are fairly small, and now the come with pretty lights
