How does one find out what version of USB is installed?

Also, if you have version 1.X, can you upgrade to version 2.XX? If so, what
does it entail?

You would have to add a 2.0 card to your PC...its not a software upgrade.
They cost about 20 or 30 bucks.

Look in Device Manager at "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". If you have an
Enhanced controller installed, you have USB 2.0 Windows will not install
that controller unless it detects the hardware. If you don't have it, you
will have to install a USB 2 PCI card. They are plug and play- Windows XP
will detect the addition and install the appropriate drivers, provided you
have SP1 or SP1a installed.

Device manager shows the following entry:
Intel(r) 8280 1BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2442

Can you tell if this is USB version 1 or 2?

USB 1. USB 2 would be Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller. You'll need a USB
2.0 PCI card to use USB 2 devices.

I have the same thing, I can assure you it is USB 1.0 as my new USB Burner
complains about it not being Ver 2.0. Do they make a Ver 2.0 card with
resources on the card, like it's own memory. Can anyone recommend a card??

One more thing all of my USB 2.0 items do work on the 1.0 card just slower,
that is why I want to know what is the best card out there. I only want to
buy this card once. I am not worried about how many ports, I just need 2, I
use a USB tower.
