How can I tell if I have 2.0 or 1.0? My CPU has 2 USB
ports on the front and 2 on the back. I'm running WinXP
Home Edition, Intel Pentium 4.
thanks
J.

Hello!
it doesn't matter in which port you are using.

Thank you, but is there a way I can check the information
without getting any programs?

Thank you!
But how do I know if I have USB 2.0? I mean, is there
something you can look up in your computer that tells you
what type of USB connection you have? I went to the
System thing, but it didn't tell me which one I have.
thx again,
J.

What?!? How would you know? But I guess you don't care if you external
hard drive, or digital camera has a transfer rate of only 11 MB/s, instead
of 480MB/s.

Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager and look in USB
Controllers at the bottom.

If you see . . . Enhanced Host Controller. . . you have a USB 2.0 one
with the needed drivers. Note that XP native drivers only come with
SP1, and ones for original XP need to be downloaded from the chipset
maker

That's great if you have the manual or know which card your PC builder used.
I know that, when you plug a usb 2.0 device like a hard drive into a 1.1
port, it lets you know.
