USB ports not working properly

Just wonering if anyone can help! About three months ago
I had upgraded to Windows XP from Windows ME. Just
recently I have installed several USB devices which had
never been used on my computer before. I get a message
window thats pops up saying that Windows does not
recognize the device. This happens occasionally when
nothing is plugged into the USB ports and constantly when
any device is plugged in. When a device is plugged in the
computer will eventually shut down and restart. I have a
Dell Axim, a multicard reader/writer, and a digital
camera which all will work, but the above problem is
happening and it's a pain!
 
A free call to Dell is necessary and may possibly get you the right
answer. If not drop back. :-)
