Peter

We have to connect an XP workstation and a printer that is
separated with a long distance.

We would like to know which type of printer cable we
should use - USB or Parallel one ? The printer supports
both interface.

Thanks

Parallel cable is cheaper.
Ask the sells for distance limit.
Or try it yourself, because enhancements are done on the printer or cable or
the motherboard maybe.

Longest USB cable I've seen is 10 Feet. Bi-directional
Parallel (Ecp/Epp) can probably be run further than 10'.

Serial signals generally don't suffer as much from cross
talk and reflective qualities as Parallel type(s). So USB
might be a good choice. You could also bridge it with a
Hub to extend the cable length even further.

If it's it a really long distance you can get "Wireless" setups
with transmitters and receivers to connect the printer.

Or even easier, buy a print server or a network printer and put it
directly on the network. If you don't have a big office and don't want
to spend the money on a network laser printer, the little print servers
by Linksys and the like are fairly inexpensive and you can connect more
than one printer.
